Junior Charlie Thomas was elected captain of next year's soccer team at a squad meeting yesterday. The team also honored senior Peter Bogovich for his performance over the past season.
Thomas led the Crimson this fall with 16 goals and is now tied with Bogovich and Solomon Gomez as the second leading scorer in Harvard soccer history with 31 goals. Thomas also won the Ivy League scoring title this fall with eight goals and two assists in seven games.
All-American Candidate
Named to the All-Ivy second team as a sophomore and a unanimous All-Ivy selection this fall. Thomas is a leading candidate for the All-American team.
Thomas feels he did not play well this fall. "I've been going downhill since I got here." Thomas said. "But I'm in better condition than I had ever been before. I've never done so many calisthenics before."
"And I've developed as a team player. Harvard soccer emphasizes the need for a concerted effort." he said.
Sacrifice
Bogovich gave up his high-scoring position on the forward line this fall to play outside half on the 4-4-2 formation. Concentrating on both offense and defense, Bogovich played a key role in Harvard's dominance of midfield play last season.
In an otherwise disappointing season, coach Bruce Munro called Bogovich's play "consistently pleasing."
