Golfers Defeat B. C., Williams, 5-2; Will Oppose Tufts, Amherst Today

By Martin R. Garay iii

The Crimson golf team stretched its season's winning streak to three matches yesterday as it defeated B. C. and Williams by identical 5-2 scores. Playing at the Concord Country Club again this afternoon, the golfers will be able to add two more victories if they can defeat Tufts and Amlierst.

Captain Yank Heisler, playing in the number one position, defeated both his opponents by substantial scores, after starting out with bogeys on the first two holes. B. C. captain Tom Reardon, a regular heavy in Boston golfing circles, had difficulty with his usually reliable putting, and his drives kept falling short. Heisler defeated him, 4 and 3.

Williams co-captain Ted Hewitt could not counter Heister's birdies, and lost 3 and 2.

B. C.'s Dennis Perrone carried Jack Purdy to the 19th hole before defeating him, one-up. Both Perrone and Purdy made the 19th green in three; but Purdy landed a little farther from the pin and three-putted the hole. Perrone only needed two putts. Purdy did get past his Williams opponent, winning two-up.

The Crimson's new addition, Tim Schaaf, had such an easy time against B. C.'s Pete Dalton and Bill Kehoe from Williams that he was off the course after the 14th hole.

Although the golf team played winter rules on the fairways, the course was in excellent condition. "The superintendent of the course did just an excellent job for us. I've never seen Concord looking this good this early in the year," Heisler said yesterday.

Erratic Woods

Skip Kistner split his matches as he tromped B. C.'s Brian Honohan, 8 and 7, but lost to Tom Jamieson of Williams, 2 and 1. He was erratic with his woods, and kept driving the ball off the fairways.

Fred ("the slot-man") Sherman, who was not overly impressive against Navy, picked up two satisfying victories. Bob Crosby, substituting for Cooch Owen, also won two.

Owen returns to the line-up this afternoon despite an infected lower lip, and along with his team, faces a weak Tufts squad, and an Amherst team with power at the top of the ladder.
