A sweep of the two doubles matches enabled Radcliffe's tennis team to tie Colby, 2-2, Thursday at Waterville, Me. Colby won both singles contests.
In the number one singles match Carolyn Estes of Colby beat Radcliffe junior Sarah Stearns, 6-2, 6-4. Another Cliffe junior, Meg Morgan, lost to Nancy Mungall, 2-6, 6-3, 8-6, at number two.
But freshmen Jill Robertson and Ingrid Sarapuu of Radcliffe trounced Sally Hawk and Carol Majdalany, 6-1, 6-2, in the number one doubles. In the number two doubles, Cliffies Donna Brorby, and Maureen Crane, eased by Jackie Nienaber and Cathy Pomiecko, 10-8, in a proset.
Increased Spirit
The match against Colby was not part of the regular Radcliffe tennis season, but was arranged and paid for by the Cliffie players. In previous years no winter tennis competition has been scheduled, but this year, because of the increased spirit of the Radcliffe team, a few winter matches have been scheduled.
