To the Editor of the CRIMSON:
Mike Kinsley's article of March 3 says that SDS believes "a quick and isolated end to this specific war in Southeast Asia is bad because it will relieve discontent against the government: economic depressions are good because they raise class consciousness among the starving workers." This statement is an unprincipled attack on SDS which totally misrepresents our position.
If racism, unemployment, or the war were eliminated tomorrow, SDS would indeed be gratified-not disturbed, as Kinsley suggests. We do not believe, however, that chronic unemployment and imperialist exploitation can be ended under the capitalist system. This is why we would continue to attack the government even if (absurd speculation!) it unilaterally ended the war.
SDS is unequivocally in favor of an immediate end to this and all imperialist wars, and of full employment in socially productive jobs under decent conditions.
