Radcliffe Swimming Team To Enter Intercollegiates

Radcliffe's varsity swimming team enters the women's intercollegiate national championships this week for the first time in the school's history.

Swimming coach Alice G. McCabe, assistant director of Activities, has predicted that Radcliffe's 200-yard freestyle relay has an excellent shot at a finish among the top six teams in the competition. The relay team, consisting of Roann Costin. Connie Cervilla. Julie Anderson and Jean Sinnott, was timed in 1:50.8 at the Easterns earlier this month.

Top team competition at the nationals will come from host Arizona State, defending national champion, and last years's runner-up. West Chester State. Colorado and Michigan State are also expected to battle for the team title.

Several Radcliffe swimmers have qualified for individual events. Costin can enter the 50-. 100- and 200-yard freestyles if she chooses. Cervilla has placed in the 200-yard individual medley. and the 50-and 100-yard butterflies. Anderson's specialty is the breaststroke and Sinnott is expected to enter the 200-yard freestyle as well as the freestyle relay.
