Robert D. Weibel, a freshman at the University of Rhode Island, has been arrested and charged with obstructing justice for allegedly informing the campus radio station of an impending police drug raid.
Steve Schock, WRIU station manager, said that the station broadcasted information transmitted to them via two-way radio by Weibel Friday afternoon.
Weibel was allegedly walking on the campus at about 3:15 p.m. with a friend who recognized several narcotics agents. He allegedly radioed the names of the agents and the license plate number of an agent's car to the station.
Ten agents were involved in the raid. They had been tipped off that three ounces of heroin and ten kilos of marijuana, together valued at $15,000, would be delivered to the campus.
The agents said no shipment was discovered.
Weibel will he arraigned Thursday and charged with obstructing a police officer--a misdemeanor.
