J.V. Booters Succumb to UConn, 5-1

In a hard fought game at Storrs, the J.V. soccer team absorbed their second loss of the young season, losing to the University of Connecticut, 5-1.

The Crimson, which lost to Babson in their opener, are now 0-2. Connecticut remained unbeaten in upping their record to 4-0.

The game began on a defensive note as neither team scored in the first ten minutes of play. With about 30 minutes remaining in the half, a Husky forward trapped a punt by Harvard goalie Ben Bryan and drilled in a shot from about 25 yards to give UConn a 1-0 lead. The Crimson tied it up 20 minutes later when John Littlefield converted a penalty kick.

UConn took the lead for good by scoring a second goal at the close of the first half. The Crimson seemed to let down slightly during the second half, allowing three goals in a space of about 15 minutes in the middle of the period.

The game was played under perfect conditions on the Husky's varsity field. UConn coach Joe Marrone said he thought both teams played well, but Connecticut seemed to display a competitive edge, having played more games.

Look to Wednesday

The J.V. booters will again be looking for their first victory in their next outing, a home match with Boston University this Wednesday. Plagued by early season injuries, the team expects to improve as time goes on.

Marrone also added that he is looking forward to next Friday, when Connecticut's varsity visits Cambridge for a game with Bruce Munro's Crimson. The Huskies currently sport a 5-2 record, having lost only to St. Louis and Bridgeport.
