J.V. Fencers Top SMU Squad, 20-7

Harvard's J.V. fencing squad boosted its record to 5-1 Saturday devouring a perennially weak Southeastern Massachusetts squad, 20-7.

The Crimson epee team paced the Harvard triumph, winning eight out of nine bouts. Sam Anderson and John Hawkins led the attack winning three straight each. David Moskowitz won two.

Both the sabre and foil teams took six out of nine. In sabre, where Crimson coach Edo Marion is seeking replacements for the graduating standouts on the varsity, all three Harvard men won two, while losing one. Loren Joseph, Steve Hobbs, and Walter Vernon fenced for Harvard.

In foil, John Ellis, Tom Sharp, and Mark Fuller each took two triumphs and lost a single contest. SMU was unable to mount much of an attack in any of the contests.

"We beat them very, very, very convincingly in every way," Marion said yesterday. "Our J.V. squad is outstanding this year," he said.
