Statistical Survey Seeks Freshman Housing Opinions

By Steven Schorr

A freshman seminar in statistics is conducting a survey this week to investigate freshman attitudes on the housing situation, Mike Pakaluk '79, a member of the seminar said yesterday.

William G. Cochran, professor of Statistics and leader of the seminar, said yesterday that "students have a lot of misconceptions about the places where they are not living."

The survey will try to uncover some of these misconceptions, and to compare Yard and Quad life, Cochran said.

A question on the various housing options currently under consideration is also included in the survey, Pakaluk said.

Francis Pipkin, associate dean of the faculty, and Bruce Collier, assistant dean of the college, aided the students in constructing the survey, but Cochran said it is "unfair to say that his is being done for the Administration."
