Netmen Squash Big Red, 9-0

The Crimson Racquetmen helped increase Cornell's hold on the Ivy cellar yesterday as they squashed the Big Red, 9-0, in Ithaca.

Junior Gary Reiner started the ball rolling with a 6-1, 6-2 scalding of his Red opponent. Todd Lundy repeated the score at the second post, while John Ingard helped keep the ball out of reach at number three, finally thumping his opponent, 6-0, 6-4.

The doubles teams of Ingard and John Horn led off in the combined thrashings, sinking their opponents, 6-2, 7-5. Reiner and Dan Waldman added another point, winning 6-1, 6-3. Lundy and Hugh Hide finished the shutout at the third position doubles, posting a score of 6-1, 6-2.

The Crimson netmen take on the militia today as they meet Army, which boasts a 1-2 log, at West Point. The contest against Army will precede the potential Ivy showdown between Princeton and Harvard later in the season.

The Crimson record is now 4-1 for the season.
