The Crimson racquetwomen dropped a donnybrook with Dartmouth yesterday as the Green prevailed 5-4 in Hanover. Coach Corey Wynn called it "the best match of the season," as the singles matches finished with the score deadlocked at 3-3.
Number one singles player Sally Roberts made a belated comeback after dropping the first set 0-6, only to lose a tiebreaker and the match in her second set, 6-7.
Freshman Katie Ditzler was also trailing in her match but gamely recovered to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Patty Wen and Rita Funaro then succumbed in a pair of prolonged three-set matches to give the Dartmouth netwomen a 3-1 margin.
Captain Denise Thal cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at number five singles, while Terry Clarke came out ahead in the fourth three-set match of the afternoon, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
That set the stage for the decisive doubles matches as the Green won two out of three to quell the racquetwomen's upset hopes.
