A reception for Radcliffe's Schlesinger Library held Wednesday in Washington was the first in a series of events honoring Radcliffe's centennial. Patricia King, the library's director, said yesterday.

President Horner gave a brief talk about the library and about Radcliffe to an overflow crowd of over 200 women. King said. Attendance at the reception was by invitation only, and King said not all those who wished to were able to attend.

The reception, held at Dumbarton Oaks, a Harvard-owned research facility in Washington, was organized by a Washington committee of local supporters of the library.

The purpose of the reception was "to acquaint women in the area with the library," King said. The Schlesinger Library, which she described as a "research library on the history of women in America," now has papers of many famous women.
