A third-period insurance goal by Bobby Miller turned out to be the margin of victory last night at Boston Garden as the Bruins topped the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-3, to take a 2-0 advantage in their best-of-seven NHL quarterfinal series.

With Boston clinging to a tenuous 3-2 lead, defenseman Brad Park and Mike Milbury combined to send Miller into the Penguin zone. The UNH graduate swooped in on goalie Denis Herron, then backhanded the puck past the goalie's stick side with 9:50 left in regulation. Pittsburgh's Orest Kindrachuk beat Gerry Cheevers for his second goal of the night to complete the scoring at 19:54.

In other NHL quarterfinal action last night, Mike Bossy beat Tony Esposito three minutes into overtime to give the New York Islanders a 1-0 win over Chicago. Montreal defeated Toronto, 5-1, and the New York Rangers evened their series with Philadelphia at one apiece with a 7-1 rout over the Flyers. Both the Islanders and Canadiens hold 2-0 leads in their series.
