As overheated elevator motor in Quincy House last night forced a dinnertime evacuation of the new building including the crowded dinning hall.
Cambridge firefighters responded to the alarm shortly before 6:20 p.m., but found no flames in the elevator shaft. They its the motor cool before allowing accidents to return to the building shortly after 6:30 p.m. No damage or injuries were reported.
"I smelled smoked and someone knocked on my door to get us out," said Fred F. Little '87, who lives on the sixth floor of the building. Other residents also said they smelled a smoke shortly after the alarm sounded.
