Religion Lecturer Chosen Quincy Senior Tutor

By Brooke A. Masters

A lecturer in the Religion Department has been appointed senior tutor of Quincy House, Harvard officials announced yesterday.

Mary McGee, who is completing her doctorate at the Harvard Divinity School, will hold the post of Quincy senior tutor for three years, said Quincy House Master Michael Shinagel. She has received a concurrent appointment to be a lecturer on the study of religion, he added.

As senior tutor, McGee will be in charge of academic advising for the more than 400 undergraduate residents of Quincy house. She will also take care of most disciplinary matters and serve on the Administrative Board of the College.

McGee is currently a religion tutor affiliated with Lowell House, and she specializes in Sanskrit. She is travelling in England and could not be reached for comment.

"She'll bring a lot of energy to the job," Shinagel said. "We felt [that] would be an excellent quality for the largest undergraduate house."

McGee, her husband Gary A. Tubb, Weston Associate Professor of Humanities, and their two-year-old daughter will move into Quincy in July.

McGee replaces Michael J Donnelly, Associate Professor of Sociology.

McGee is the fourth new senior tutor to be appointed this spring. Christine M. Flug was appointed at Winthrop, Greg A. Johnson '72 will be the Adams senior tutor and the Lowell House post will be filled by Carol G. Zaleski. The search is still on for a replacement for Leverett House Senior Tutor Thomas A. Dingman '67, who announced in April that he would be stepping down in order to assume a full-time post in University Hall.
