HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest

Reprimand Higgins

DISSENT

By Daniel Altman

We really don't care how Kevin Higgins feels about rent control or any other political issue. The staff sees the Kirkland superintendent's stuffing of mailboxes as a good excuse to seem. Phasize its position on rent control; we think The Crimson missed the point.

Harvard allows access to its mail service only to its officers and a very few student organizations. For the remaining groups and clubs, distribution centers are provided in every house and the Union. To suggest that Kevin Higgins has any right to further his personal views through the University Mail strikes us as utterly preposterous. He can use the distribution centers or the U.S. Postal Service like anyone else.

It would be irresponsible to allow Higgins to continue in his job without some admonition from the Kirkland House masters. Without a reprimand, Higgins might continue to abuse his position and cram whatever he pleases into students' mailboxes. He clearly needs to be reminded of the bounds of his authority.
