Carrie Shumway, a junior center back on the field hockey team, has been named Harvard Athlete of the Week.
Shumway, a psychology major, helped to improve Harvard's overall record to 3-3 and its Ivy mark to 1-0, recording two assists in a 2-0 win over Cornell this past weekend. Both goals came off penalty corners with Shumway handling the most difficult part of the penalty corner the trapping of the ball.
Earlier in the week, she set up Harvard's game-winning goal against Springfield. It also came on a penalty corner and it gave the Crimson a 2-1 win.
Shumway is second on the team in assists, with four, and fourth on the team in total points with four.
She halls from Laconia High School in Laconia, N.H.
