HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
Markham Professor of Government H. Douglas Price died yesterday morning, after suffering a fall Friday night.
Price was an American government scholar specializing in post-New Deal voting patterns.
He was teaching a junior seminar, Government 90hd: "Elite Decision-Making," and an independent study on politics since the New Deal this semester.
In the spring, he would have taught Government 1300: "Congress: Power and Preferences."
"He has been a member of this department for three decades," said Kenneth A. Shepsle, chair of the Government Department. "He Students remembered Price as a teacher who had an amazing command of American politics, but also had an intense interest in students. "[Price] was universally well-liked for being a fair and kind person," said Andrei H. Cherny "97, who was taking the independent study course with Price. "I chose him because of his amazing knowledge of the subject--it was an unparalleled opportunity," said Cherny, who is a Crimson editor. Shepsle has informed graduate students and other members of the government department of Price's death, and a private service will be held in the near future. Sheplse said that Price would also be publicly commemorated. Price is survived by his wife and two grown sons
