The election of Harvard and Radcliffe Class Marshals and Class Committee Representatives will be held during the month of October. We encourage each of you to run. These Class representatives work with the Harvard Alumni Association and the Radcliffe College Alumnae Association planning senior activities that take place during Commencement week in June. They also are involved in planning other social activities that the Class may wish to undertake during the year.

It is also necessary to note that the Class Marshal position is not directly a fund-raising one, however, it is important that the Marshals encourage the Class to make the fund raising effort a successful one and to support the individual solicitations which are handled by the Gift Co-Chairs who will work closely with the Senior Gift Office.

To run for the four Harvard and four Radcliffe Marshal positions you must submit a nominating petition signed by 25 classmates along with a black and white passport photo to the Harvard Alumni Association Office on the third floor of Wadsworth House by 3:00 PM, Thursday, September 25,1997. You may draft your own petition or pick up a petition form at Wadsworth House. Include your Harvard ID number, your House affiliation, your correct mailing address, your E-mail address, and your phone number. Your petition should also include a brief five item resume which will be published during election week in the Crimson along with your photograph. Someone will be available to collect photos and petition forms from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 24, and Thursday, September 25. These times will be strictly enforced. If you do not turn in a photo with your petition your name and activities will appear in the Crimson without a picture. The first round of balloting will be held in the Houses during the following week (Sept. 30 - Oct. 3). The top eight Harvard and top eight Radcliffe candidates will run again one week later in the final elections.

After the election of Harvard and Radcliffe Class Marshals, House Representative elections will take place in each House. The thirteen House Representatives on the Class Committee aid the Marshals in planning Class activities throughout the senior year. In future years the Harvard and Radcliffe Class of 1998 will look to the Marshals and Class Committee for leadership in alumni and alumnae affairs.

Anyone interested in running for House Representative on the Harvard and Radcliffe Class Committee should submit a petition with the signatures of ten classmates to the Harvard Alumni Office on the third floor of Wadsworth House by 3:00 PM, Thursday, October 16,1997. After the election of the Class Committee, the following week, the entire committee will participate in appointing the Class Secretary, Treasurer, and Gift Co-Chairs. Information about these important appointed positions may also be obtained at Wadsworth House.

For those of you who would like more detailed information before you decide to run please feel free to call us or stop by.
