Former Governor Cuomo to Address ARCO Forum

HARVARD BRIEF

By James Y. Stern

Former New York Governor Mario Cuomo will speak at the ARCO Forum of the Kennedy School of Government (KSG) on Monday, where he will call for a return to "heroic" issues in American politics.

Following his 8 p.m. speech, which is scheduled to last 30 to 45 minutes, Cuomo will field questions from the audience.

The former governor will use the speech to emphasize "the big issues that make our country better," such as fighting poverty and feeding the hungry, according to a KSG statement.

Those issues are particularly timely for Cuomo because of the imminent presidential primary election in 2000, according to the statement.

Cuomo is concerned those issues are not prominent in public life and will attempt to put them on the agenda for the election.

This year, the ARCO Forum has hosted numerous political figures, including NAACP Head Julian Bond, New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman and Mary Robinson, president of Ireland.
