Honors Keep Pouring In For Captain Balestracci

By Timothy J. Mcginn, Crimson Staff Writer

Harvard football’s outgoing captain Dante Balestracci sure isn’t leaving quietly.

Having already become a four-time recipient of both All-Ivy and All-New England honors, the Crimson senior linebacker was named this year’s George “Bulger” Lowe Award winner on Dec. 4. The Award is presented by the Gridiron Club of Boston.

He is the eighth player in Harvard history to be chosen and the first since Neil Rose ’03 in 2001.

The honor is presented annually to the top offensive and defensive Division I players in New England.

Boston College running back Derrick Knight was the offensive recipient.

In addition to the three awards he has already received, Balestracci has been selected as one of 16 finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award—which recognizes the top defensive player in Division I-AA—for the second straight season.

Balestracci will be honored at the Sheraton Needham Hotel during the Gridiron Club’s Bob Whelan College Football Awards Banquet on Jan. 9.
