And while we may be wistful for the days when we could write about summer camp or lying on the beach, Harvard students seem to get a bit more out of vacation these days—and Crimson athletes are no exception. Whether on the pitch, field, or pool deck, Harvard standouts left their mark all across the world this summer.

Huppert, O'Connor Named to ESPN All-District First Team
If more people followed women’s heavyweight crew, co-captain Laura Huppert might have been recognized by ESPN before now. And if more people followed wrestling, co-captain J.P. O’Connor, whose national championship victory was broadcast on the network, would be a household name. As it so happens, neither is the case. But because the athletes matched their athletic achievements with academic prowess, both have recently been named to the ESPN the Magazine All-District First Team.

Because of NCAA restrictions, women’s heavyweight rowers are not allowed to “shirt race” like the men’s teams are, which means that when teams get the chance to pick up an opponent’s shirt, they make the most of it. Eastern Sprints, when everyone trades for each other’s shirts, is that rare chance.

Heavyweights Secure Beanpot Win, Lights Beat MIT
The Radcliffe heavyweights and lightweights wrapped up the dual season last Saturday as the heavyweights competed against other Boston schools in the Beanpot, while the lightweights took on MIT and Wisconsin in the Muri Cup.

The past few weeks have not been without their share of challenges for the Black and White—which included the team falling out of the national rankings—but Radcliffe came out on Saturday looking to turn around its season.
Women’s Heavyweights Falter on The Road
Radcliffe (0-3) dropped each of its five races, allowing the undefeated Tigers (6-0) to cruise to another cup win. Princeton handily clinched the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Four contests, crossing the finish line at 6:51.9, 6:58.0, and 8:00.6, respectively
