Vellucci Strikes Again

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Councilor Al Vellucci came up with another plan to eliminate the University from the map yesterday when he told the City Planning Board to run the proposed 150-foot wide "Inner Belt Route" through Harvard Square and to stop being "prejudiced" against East Cambridge.

The Planning Board has submitted three alternate routes to the State Public Works Department, which will make the final decision. One of the routes (No. 3 on the diagram) would cross Cambridge between Central and Harvard Squares. The other two (Nos. 1 and 2) are in East Cambridge.

Besides suggesting the route through Harvard Square (No. 4), Vellucci also told acting Public Works Commissioner Gordon Gray, who was present at the meeting, "You won't go through Cambridge without a fight. And we can fight here in Cambridge."
