Ike Will Arrive In Boston Today

General Dwight D. Eisenhower comes to Boston today for the first time in nine years, and Massachusetts Republicans are planning a mammoth birthday party for the man who led their party to victory in two Presidential elections.

Tonight Eisenhower will speak at a $100 a plate dinner at Boston's Commonwealth Armory. The Republican State Central Committee reports that the event has been sold out for weeks, but Eisenhower's speech at 9:30 p.m., will be carried throughout the State by WBZ-TV (Channel 4).

Ike will arrive at the Butler Aviation field at Logan Airport between 1:30 and 1:45 this afternoon in a private plane. He will be met by a bevy of top Republicans, including Gov. John A. Volpe and Senatorial candidate George Cabot Lodge.

A police escort will take Eisenhower to the Sheraton Plaza Hotel, where he will spend the afternoon resting. The General will speak to a crowd in Copley Square from the hotel balcony at about 5 p.m. and will then prepare for the dinner.

Ike will leave for his birthday party at 6:45 p.m. and may make a brief appearance at a reception for the Massachusetts Republican candidates. He will stay in Boston until early Tuesday morning, when he leaves for more politicking in New Hampshire.

Eisenhower is expected to offer strong endorsement to George Lodge, and to launch a strong attack against the policies of the Kennedy Administration and the Senate candidacy of the President's youngest brother, Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy.
