Maggie Williams

By Adam Clymer

To the editor:

Your editorial this morning missed the point, just as Maggie Williams did and the Clintons do regularly. Of course she has a right to work in political campaigns, and of course directors of the IOP usually had extensive political experience. But appearances matter, too, as Hillary Clinton proved to her detriment by failing to set clear boundaries between the State Department and the Clinton Foundation. Similarly, Ms. Williams' decision to take a leave of absence demonstrates that she does not understand how, in the midst of an intensely partisan campaign, she has damaged the reputation of the IOP for partisan balance. She has put her personal political interests before the interests of the Institute. She should resign.
