Located on 50 Church St., the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning supports Harvard affiliates who strive to promote innovative and effective teaching.
After Erwin N. Griswold left the HLS deanship to serve as Solicitor General in 1968, Bok would take his place, steering the school for three years until he became president.
The Harvard Kennedy School, which Graham T. Allison played an instrumental role in expanding over Bok’s tenure, is now one of the most well-known schools for government and public policy in the world.
As a law student, Bok fretted that his poor marks on practice exams would preclude him from pursuing a legal career; a decade and a half later, he would become HLS’s dean.
