Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
Richard G. Ames '34, president of the Student Council and captain of the Varsity wrestling team, has been awarded the Francis H. Burr Scholarship, according to an announcement made yesterday by the Committee on Scholarships, following approval by the Corporation. Ames is a graduate of Milton Academy. He is concentrating in Biochemical Sciences, and is an honor student, ending the past year in Rank two.
The scholarship was established in 1914 in memory of Francis H. Burr '09, by his friends. It is awarded to an undergraduate in his fourth year who "combines as nearly as possible Burr's remarkable qualities of character, leadership, scholarship, and athletic ability." The recipient is selected by the Dean of the College and the chairman of the athletic committee.
Carl H. Hageman '33, captain of the 1932 football team was awarded the scholarship last year. Other men who have received the scholarship in recent years include: Francis J. Mardulier '30, a member of the track team; Vernon Munroe, Jr. '81, captain of the track team, and now secretary to President Conant; and William B. Wood, Jr. '32, captain of football.
