The National Science Foundation yesterday added $172,000 to the funds Richard M. Goody, professor of Meteorology, will use for research in atmospheric physics. Goody has also received $100,000 from the Ford Foundation and $20,000 from the Research Corporation of New York.
The study of the physics of the atmosphere has declined in the past few years, Goody said last Monday. He attributed his success in raising funds for his research project to a desire on the part of many scientists to see this currently-neglected field revived.
The NSF money will pay for new equipment Goody intends to use in his studies, and the Ford Foundation Grant will finance a series of pre-doctoral fellowships in the field. The Research Corporation funds will cover incidental expenses.
