Three Men Rob Couple Near River

By Garrett M. Graff

The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) has issued a community advisory warning returning students about a robbery last week at a well-traveled campus intersection.

Last Monday, three men approached a couple walking near the intersection of Mill St. and Plympton St. around 1:15 a.m.

One of the men put his arm around the female, while placing a knife to the male's throat before demanding his wallet.

The robbers fled down Mill St. along Winthrop House,

One of the victims was slightly injured.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to contact HUPD Detective Amy Schlosberg at 617-496-3223, said Peggy A. McNamara, HUPD spokesperson.

The robbery was the second hold up attempted on Harvard property in less than a week. On Aug. 27, police say there was an unarmed robbery attempt in front of Johnston Gate. No one was injured.

According to the Cambridge Police Department, there were seventeen robberies reported in the past month. That's an increase of 31% from the 13 reported during July of 1999.
