Junior Leads Crimson Attack
Without a doubt, junior forward Katherine Sheeleigh’s performance on the field speaks for itself. The junior forward leads the Crimson with five goals, three of which came this past week in Harvard’s two victories over Fairfield and Cornell. But it’s been her leadership development this season that her teammates have really noticed.
Harvard Maintains 16-Year Streak
The Crimson women’s soccer team extended its winning streak to four over the weekend after toppling Cornell on the road, 2-0. After its victory over the Big Red (1-9-1, 0-3 Ivy), Harvard (5-5-1, 2-0) is now one of only three teams undefeated in Ivy League play. In the Crimson’s 3-0 home win against Cornell last season, then-sophomores Christina Hagner and Katherine Sheeleigh each scored a goal. Saturday, Sheeleigh added to her team-leading collection of five goals with a tally in the second half.
BACK ON TRACK
After winning just one of its first seven games of the season, the Crimson could be hitting its stride at just the right time. Junior striker Katherine Sheeleigh scored twice in the first half as Harvard dominated Fairfield yesterday on Ohiri Field. The team cruised to a 4-1 victory—its third win in a row.
PENALTY PUNISHMENT
Despite controlling the game, No. 10 Massachusetts mustered only a lone goal—on a penalty—against Harvard. Freshman goalkeeper Cynthia Tassapoulos contributed 12 saves to the Crimson’s effort. Next up for the team is a match-up against Michigan at noon on Saturday.
Sheeleigh’s Double Makes It Three Straight Wins
Junior forward Katherine Sheeleigh got the team going, and Harvard never stopped in its 4-1 home win over Fairfield Tuesday. The Crimson attacked the goal early and often, out-shooting the Stags 26-7, as Harvard claimed its third consecutive win.
NICHOLS AND DIMES
Co-captain Lizzy Nichols and the rest of the Crimson forced a 2-0 blowout of Holy Cross yesterday on Cumnock Turf; Harvard’s two goals came on shots from junior Caroline Kutler and senior Christina Hagner. The win, which was earned on a turf field, will provide valuable preparation heading into the Crimson’s matchup with Yale on a field of the same material.
Harvard Overcomes Crusaders in Shutout
After last night’s 2-0 victory over Holy Cross, Harvard women’s soccer coach Ray Leone may need to bring in a doctor from UHS to check if his team is suffering from bipolar disorder. Nine games into the season, Harvard (3-5-1, 1-0 Ivy) has been a team with two faces. On the road, the Crimson’s record is 0-4. But with junior Caroline Kutler and senior Christina Hagner’s first half goals, the Crimson showed its other face last night, defeating Holy Cross (5-4-1) under the lights at Cumnock Turf and improving its home record to 3-1-1.
