The Schlesinger Library, housing books belonging to the Radcliffe Institute for Women’s Studies, looks like the typical Harvard building—brick facade, windows with quaint, white trim, colonial architecture—but the Schlesinger Library is also way better than any other Harvard institution. Because the Schlesinger library is the proud keeper of hot, hot, hot lesbian pornography magazines!

Besides the standard copies of Vogue, Ladies’ Home Journal and Martha Stewart Living, there is also On Our Backs: The Best of Lesbian Sex. Behind the cover, which depicts a woman dressed up as a sailor kissing a hooker in front of Times Square, is a treasure trove of same-sex pornography.

Indeed, this is The Best of Lesbian Sex, as in the 6-page “Sailor Seduces Siren” layout. “Inspired by the famous World War II photo of a sailor kissing a nurse, Lucky searched Times Square until she found herself a sweetie, the irresistible siren Dahlia,” reads the introduction. What followed were shots of the sailor girl stripping the prostitute’s black lace underwear, groping her breasts, laughing and kissing.

“Debauched Angel,” a profile of a naked woman with pierced nipples and lace-up boots, is another gem. Her identity is that of a “Femme Hunter”, her status: “very taken.” What gets her hot is “turning others on, getting them turned off.”

There was more, including a page of thoughtful dildo reviews. The “Venus Wrap” is a “bright pink wishbone with not one but two pleasing prongs.” The “Deluxe Crystal Wand” is great for “probing the spot I love the most—the G-spot. It allows you to reach your happy place with finesse and pressure, just as hard as you like.” The “Twist” is a leather arm binder for S & M sex that is “very functional: a must have for ardent bondage fans.” But the highlight of the review page was the “Hello Kitty Vibe” with Kitty vibrating: “it’s petite, it’s pink, it’s a Hello Kitty vibrator!”

Maybe a look at “Fisting Frenzy—Two Hot Switches Play with Power in the Dungeon,” a photo shoot in which “Mistress Aimee [“Switch” no. 1] put her boy Liam [“Switch” no. 2] in bondage and then made him get on his knees and worship her cock.” Heterosexual bondage, true, but Mistress Aimee probably looks like one damn fine honey to the magazine’s readers, with her cakey makeup and leather gear.

To see sexy spreads, to learn about “Dyke Tantry” and to read lurid short stories on phone sex and fisting in alleys, go to the Schlesinger Library.

The only caveat: the material is “non-circulating to insure availability” (for all lesbian sex aficionados). There is a Xerox machine in the Reference Room, but the researchers on “Culinary Art in Kazakhstan” or “Marriage Rituals in Medieval Mozambique” probably won’t look too kindly upon the person spending an hour copying page after page of naked women rolling around in bed (and other locales). But never fear—the bimonthly On Our Backs is $5.95 per issue or $34.95 an year. Just call 1-877-XXX-00BS or hit www.onourbackmag.com. The Debauched Angel gets pissed “when I think I’m not going to get any.” So make her happy!
