Sophomore forward Conor Morrison recorded an even-strength goal late in the first period against Princeton Friday evening at the Bright Hockey Center. Tying the Tigers, 4-4, the Crimson came away pleased with the overall team effort, as it erased three separate deficits. Morrison has 11 points in 22 games played this season for Harvard, which takes on BU tonight.

Northeastern junior Mike McLaughlin found the back of the net halfway through the first period to put the Huskies on top in last night’s Beanpot opener at TD Garden. The forward struck again at the beginning of the second frame, keying a 4-0 victory over Harvard.

After narrowly losing to high-powered No. 3 Yale last week, Harvard men’s hockey team looked as though it had a good chance to upset unranked Northeastern in the first round of the 2011 Beanpot.

Senior Ryan Carroll, shown above in previous play, had 34 saves in the Crimson’s 1-0 loss to Yale on Friday. The goaltender nearly shut out the Bulldogs, but as the game neared to a close, Yale captain Jimmy Martin scored the game-winner to let the home team breathe a sigh of relief.

Crimson Unable To Upset the Bulldogs

The Crimson (4-17, 3-13 ECAC) managed to keep the most recent matchup between the rivals close but could not hold on, dropping Friday’s game to Yale (19-4, 13-3) on the road, 1-0. Harvard has not beaten the Bulldogs in New Haven since 2005.
