Men’s Hockey Bows Out in First Round of Beanpot

After narrowly losing to high-powered No. 3 Yale last week, Harvard men’s hockey team looked as though it had a good chance to upset unranked Northeastern in the first round of the 2011 Beanpot.

Can’t stop the slide

The Harvard men’s hockey team dropped its third game in a row last night, falling to Northeastern, 4-0. The Crimson has dropped 17 out of its last 19 contests and is second-to-last in the ECAC standings.

Can’t af-ford to lose

Northeastern junior Mike McLaughlin found the back of the net halfway through the first period to put the Huskies on top in last night’s Beanpot opener at TD Garden. The forward struck again at the beginning of the second frame, keying a 4-0 victory over Harvard.

Crimson Unable To Upset the Bulldogs

The Crimson (4-17, 3-13 ECAC) managed to keep the most recent matchup between the rivals close but could not hold on, dropping Friday’s game to Yale (19-4, 13-3) on the road, 1-0. Harvard has not beaten the Bulldogs in New Haven since 2005.

Saving Private Ryan

Senior Ryan Carroll, shown above in previous play, had 34 saves in the Crimson’s 1-0 loss to Yale on Friday. The goaltender nearly shut out the Bulldogs, but as the game neared to a close, Yale captain Jimmy Martin scored the game-winner to let the home team breathe a sigh of relief.

Crimson Falls Just Short In Ancient Eight Matchup

Before a rowdy sold-out crowd at Bright Hockey Center, the Big Red’s freshman goaltender Andy Iles ruined any chance for two consecutive victories by the Crimson.

Seven-Game Winless Streak Comes to End Against Colgate

After falling on the wrong side of several close decisions over the past two months, the Harvard men’s hockey team left little doubt as to who had played the better game on Friday night at Bright Hockey Center.

WEARING MANY HATS

Shown here in earlier action, Danny Biega, a sophomore defenseman, scored three of Harvard’s six goals in a thorough thrashing of Colgate Friday evening. The hat trick was the second of the year by a member of the Crimson; Michael Biega—Danny’s older brother—also had a three-goal performance against Brown Jan. 7. The elder Biega added two assists against the Raiders.

Harvard Hockey Does Not Measure Up To Big Red

Men's Hockey loses to Ivy League rival Cornell 2-1 on Saturday in the sold-out Bright Hockey Center.
