Women's Rugby Holds off West Chester

​In its second weekend of action and its first official contest of the regular season, the Harvard women’s rugby team came out on top against perennial national championship contender and two-time semifinalist West Chester. Playing on the Golden Rams’ home turf, the Crimson scored four tries en route to a 23-17 victory.

​Coming off a difficult season during the 2014-2015 campaign, the Harvard women’s rugby team is looking to start off the season strong as it faces University of Prince Edward Island and Bowdoin at Bowdoin on Saturday.

Women's Rugby Unable to Slow Quinnipiac Offense in Losses

On a blustery day in Hamden, Conn., gusts of offense from the Quinnipiac women’s rugby team proved decisive as the Bobcats claimed a trio of rugby sevens matches over Harvard. The event, which honored Austin Hill, a teenager with cystic fibrosis, represented the Crimson’s final chance at fine-tuning before the Ivy League sevens championships two weeks from now.

On Saturday afternoon, snow flurries may have delayed the start of the Crimson Sevens women’s rugby tournament, but the wintry weather couldn’t keep the host team from lighting up the scoreboard beneath the bubble of Harvard Stadium.

Harvard, shown here in previous action, hosted a sevens tournament over the weekend at Harvard Stadium. The team split into two squads, with the Crimson finishing 3-1 on the day, while the Black finished 1-3.

This weekend at the Frostbite sevens tournament, the Harvard women’s rugby team came out hot, totaling a combined 4-2 record between the two Crimson squads that entered the field.

Co-captain Hope Schwartz accelerated through an opening in Dartmouth’s line to score the go-ahead try and give the Crimson a 10-5 victory over the Big Green.


Rugby Drops 26-15 Decision at Princeton

The Tigers (2-1, 2-1 Ivy) outscored the Crimson (2-2, 2-2 Ivy) 19-5 in the second half to overcome an early deficit and take the game.
