After dropping the national title match to rival Yale last year, co-captain Nirasha Guruge and the Harvard women’s squash team will seek retribution when the CSA Team Championships come to Cambridge this weekend.

In her final regular season match, Harvard co-captain Nirasha Guruge, shown above in earlier action, defeated Yale co-captain Rhetta Nadas in four games, battling back from an early one-game deficit to grab the win. Guruge was one of five Crimson players to grab victories on Sunday.
Kennifer
Co-captain Devan Kennifer, shown above in earlier action, turned in two strong offensive performance for the Harvard women’s water polo team, notching seven goals in the Crimson’s 15-14 loss to Iona and two in Harvard’s 13-1 win over Villanova, both on Saturday.
Gemmell
Battling back pain, junior Laura Gemmell, shown here in previous action, still managed to win both of her weekend contests playing at the No. 2 spot. The former national champion remains perfect on the year.

Co-captain Nirasha Guruge, shown above in earlier action, and the Harvard women’s squash team captured a decisive 8-1 win over Trinity on Saturday, preserving the Crimson’s undefeated record and No. 1 ranking in the country. Guruge grabbed a 3-0 win for the Crimson at the No. 3 spot.

Nirvana
Co-captain Nirasha Guruge, shown above in earlier action, and the Harvard women’s squash team did not drop a single match this weekend. Despite playing a demanding number of games, the Crimson came out on top in each of its matchups, 9-0. Junior Laura Gemmell played her only match of the weekend against No. 15 Amherst, downing her opponent in three straight sets.
HOW DO YOU LIKE GEM APPLES?
In her first match of the season, junior Laura Gemmell topped Dartmouth No. 1 Corey Schafer, 11-7, 11-7, 7-11, and 11-1 last night. The No. 1 Crimson topped the Big Green and Middlebury with ease.
HIDDEN GEM
Harvard junior Laura Gemmell, shown above, enters the 2011-12 season with renewed focus after dropping the first match of her collegiate career in the finals of February’s CSA National Individual Championships. The No. 1 Crimson opens its season tomorrow against Stanford and Williams.
Joy in Mudville
Freshman third baseman Kasey Lange earned Ivy League Player of the Year honors after hitting .444 and driving in 65 runs during her rookie season.
Be-devaling
Junior co-captain Devan Kennifer paced the Harvard attack, leading the way with 76 goals. The Monterrey, Calif., native was also a staunch defender and tallied a team-high 81 goals. Kennifer was named the team MVP and earned a CWPA Southern Division all-conference first-team accolade.
