With the weather warming up, it’s time to whip out the KC Masterpiece sauce and spatula that have been gathering dust over the winter, courtesy Harvard University Dining Services (HUDS).

Ambitious chefs and culinary rookies alike looking for a change of dining hall scenery can order barbeque kits, courtesy of HUDS, and head to the great outdoors for a sizzling meal.

After all, why drop $200 for a romantic dinner at Sandrine’s when you can do it yourself for free?

Students must obtain the grill, charcoal, and lighter fluid, but HUDS provides the rest: hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls and buns, condiments, chips, desserts, and beverages.

For picky grillers, special food requests are approved on a case-by-case basis.

Alexander M. Phillips ’06, who frequently throws barbecue bashes for the men’s lightweight crew team, says it’s simple. “It is really very easy to organize,” he says. “You have to let [your dining hall manager] know a couple days in advance and give them an idea of the stuff you would like. All you really need is a grill and you’re set.”

Bon appetit! And don’t forget the fire extinguisher.
