Advising
This Is What Talking to Your Advisor Is Like

Advice for Fort(night) Success
Bliss. Sit back and unwind. Read some Joyce. Bask in the glory of a shelter that’s built to last. It’s required.
Advice for Fort(night) Success
During Advising Fortnight, students at the College engage in deep contemplation and soul-searching to determine the best path for their undergraduate years (and beyond). By the end of the two weeks, required advising sessions are meant to help freshmen plan their futures—whether they want to or not. Overwhelming? Maybe. In light of this, FM is putting the fort back in fortnight. Here’s a step-by-step guide of how to build an exceptionally cozy and impressive dwelling. Beginners and seasoned pros alike better listen up: it’s required.
Advice for Fort(night) Success
Extreme makeover fort edition. Now it’s time for beautification. A back wall of cozy pillows is mandatory, while additions like scented candles and hot tea exude refinement. And remember: no fort is ever complete without a potted plant.
Advice for Fort(night) Success
Raise the Roof. Roofs are best raised when anchor points are available. In this case, ceiling pipes serve as an excellent resource (Yard Ops would be proud) and lamps are used to maintain the fort’s height and depth. Rubber ducks will keep the party goin’ all night long.
Advice for Fort(night) Success
Collect supplies. Supplies of interest include blankets, pillows, sheets, lamps, duct tape, rubber bands, and rubber ducks.
Advice for Fort(night) Success
Find a desirable fort location. Ideally, the fort will be located near blankets and pillows. Proximity to dining halls is also key: you might decide to live in this puppy and you don’t want to starve in the process.
Advising Fortnight Menu
Advising Fortnight began this evening with a kick-off event in Annenberg. The next two weeks promise a plethora of events catered to (and catered for) freshman eager for wisdom about concentrations (and cupcakes). With pithy, often alliterative, food-oriented titles, the department workshops are aimed to help freshmen gauge their academic interests. Acknowledging the overstimulated and chronically indecisive nature of this generation, Flyby makes the concentration decision easy. Just go for the food.

Rule number one for avoiding the freshman 15—don't go to events just for the food. However, with Advising Fortnight taking place over the next two weeks, it's time for freshmen to forget about the rules and indulge in the cuisines each department is offering, hopefully learning more about potential concentrations along the way.
