Zitrides Is Probably Relieved But Brown AC Keeps Mum

PROVIDENCE, Dec. 12--Brown's head football coach, Gregory G. "Gus" Zitrides, appears to be on the way out of his job after a disastrous season of eight losses and one win.

The Brown Athletic Council met tonight to consider a renewal of Zitrides' contract and emerged from its meeting completely mum.

The complete silence convinced observers here that Zitrides had been fired because, had he been retained, a decision should have been announced immediately, since a football dinner for the team, coaches, and alumni is scheduled for tomorrow.

As a line coach since 1947 under former Brown coach "Rip" Eagle, Zitrides developed great popularity with members of the team. When Eagle left for Penn State last year, Zitrides became the new Brown coach partly through the petitioning of Brain players.
