'Cliffe To Let 20 Girls Live Off in Spring

Radcliffe officials announced yesterday they will let a few students live in private apartments on an experimental basis next semester.

Susan Olson, director of residence, presented the preliminary plan, formulated by the deans and Mrs. Bunting, to the RGA legislature yesterday afternoon.

Under the proposal, 20 girls will be able to live on their own next term. These 20 -- who must all be 21 years old -- will be selected by the deans on the basis of applications, which must be submitted by Dec. 1.

Miss Olson explained that the administration had asked her to present the plan to the legislature and "get a sense of the feeling of the meeting."

All Seniors

Although the idea of letting girls live in their own apartments was unanimously approved, RGA felt strongly that the privilege should be extended to all seniors, regardless of age. Most of the representatives also thought 21-year-old juniors should be eligible.

Miss Olson said she would tell the Radcliffe administration what RGA had suggested. She said the original proposal would definitely be effected, even if the legislature's recommendations were not.

The plan was presented in response to a motion requesting such residences, which was brought before RGA last spring. At that time, the legislature decided it did not have the authority to rule on the issue, and sent it to the deans for consideration.
