Edward L. Casey '19, former head football coach and all-America player, Wednesday in Newton. He was 72.
The funeral is today at 10 a.m. at Our Church in Newton.
Remembered best for his broken-field running and acrobatic pass receiving, Casey weighed only 155 pounds during a which earned him a solid place Harvard football history.
In 1916 he made second team of the all-America squad as a sophomore.
All-America
After two years in the Navy, he returned to lead his team to an undefeated season, catching one-banded the winning pass against Yale, and throwing a last touchdown to the Princeton. He was an all-America that year.
Casey coached Tufts and the Harvard freshmen before becoming head coach 1930-34. He later coached the Boston Redskins and the Boston Bears.
