As individual members of the Strauch Committee begin to formulate and present their opinions, a showdown appears to be brewing over the question of increasing the size of the College.

All but the four student members of the committee seem to be coming around to the point of view vehemently argued by Dr. Chase N. Peterson '52, vice president for alumni affairs and development--that male alumni give Harvard more money than female alumnae, and a decrease in the number of men in the College will mean a decrease in donations from male alumni without a corresponding rise in donations from women.

The students will probably not go down without a fight; they'll soon start meeting with undergraduates in the Houses to determine how students feel about expansion. Still, the legitimacy--whether deserved or not--that Peterson's title lends to his arguments will undoubtedly have a marked influence on the Strauch Committee's final recommendations.
