Cross-Dressed Men Parade Through Square

By Richard M. Burnes

Dressed for a day on the town in red dresses, matching lipstick and not much else, 30 to 40 revelers from Newport, R.I. took the Square by storm Sunday.

The gaggle of both cross-and underdressed men lunched at John Harvard's Brew House before departing for an afternoon of "races," said the manager of the Dunster Street eatery, who added that he thought the group blended right in with Cambridge culture.

Although the Brew House staff wasn't phased by the mysterious post-Valentine's Day parade, other veteran Square-watchers found the mid-winter run somewhat extraordinary.

"Those guys weren't wearing very much," said Cambridge resident Jules Chisholm with a laugh. Chisholm works Sunday at the Harvard Square Information Kiosk.
