LONDON--Adolf Hitler was reported tonight to have given up on his "intuition" and turned the direction of the war back to the general staff.
Reports reaching French quarters from the French frontier said that Hitler, following smashing defeats in Russia, finally was convinced after more than a year that he was unable to direct the fighting men and had decided to leave military matters in the hands of his generals and admirals.
It was reported that the German General Staff already has drawn up plans for an Axis retreat in southern Russia.
