The annual Head of the Charles Regatta returned for its 61st year this past weekend. Bringing together more than 12,000 competitors and hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world, the 3-mile course is the largest of its kind. Over the three-day event, Crimson photographers joined the crowds at the riverbanks to capture the action.

Beginning on Friday, vendors lined the river in front of Lowell House, attracting customers to shop. Supporters of Harvard Radcliffe Rowing filled the dock of Weld Boathouse.

Harvard’s men’s heavyweight top boat set the pace mid-competition, ultimately winning the Championship Eights Collegiate Division. The Harvard men’s lightweight 8+ prepares to launch, later securing its fifth consecutive win.

Friends and family of Harvard rowing pack the Newell boathouse dock in hopes of catching a glimpse of the passing boats. Some spectators brought homemade signs to cheer on the rowers.

Harvard men’s top heavyweight eight narrowly missed out on first overall, losing by less than a second to the Holland Acht team. Harvard-Radcliffe’s two varsity teams put up tough competition in their home waters of the Charles, with the women’s lightweights defending the V8+ title and women’s heavyweights earning a fifth-place medal.

Boats pass Dunster House as they navigate the course, departing from Boston University’s DeWolfe Boathouse and finishing near Christian Herter Park.

The John W. Weeks Footbridge, one of six bridges along the course, is a prime spot for spectators to watch rowers speeding beneath it.

Led by captains Marco Gandola ’27 and Sam Gallaudet ’27, the Men’s Championship 8 boat – who won the collegiate division and placed second overall – gets hyped as it leaves Newell Boathouse.
