Strikers Expand Picket to CGIS South
Three hours into the picket, a group of ten demonstrators peeled away from the main tent outside the Science Center and headed toward CGIS South — marking the first time strikers extended their presence to the complex during the walkout.
Arriving at the building’s front entrance, the group circled in a tight loop.
“What do we want? Contracts! When do we want it? Now!” they chanted.
Several classes were scheduled to meet in the building at the time. GenEd 1194: “Philosophy of Technology: From Marx and Heidegger to Artificial Intelligence” told students Tuesday afternoon that picketing was expected and shifted its session online.
Picketing has continued elsewhere on campus. A small group of demonstrators gathered outside Annenberg Hall before joining others circulating nearby entrances.

The expanded activity coincided with large lectures in the area, including Economics 10B: “Principles of Economics (Macroeconomics),” which proceeded in person as scheduled.
“We hope that the university and the union are able to resolve their differences quickly,” wrote Economics professor David I. Laibson ’88 in a Tuesday update to Ec 10 students.
As students passed through the Science Center plaza, union members handed out flyers urging undergraduates to support the strike and providing information about both the Harvard Graduate Students Union and the Harvard Academic Workers union.
“6,000 of your teachers and researchers might strike soon,” the flyer read, referencing an ongoing strike authorization vote among academic workers.
