Two Possibly Injured After Shots Fired on Memorial Drive
Police responded Monday afternoon to reports of shots fired on Memorial Drive near River Street, where two people may have been injured.
The Cambridge Police Department and Massachusetts State Police responded shortly after 1:20 p.m. to reports of gunshots near the intersection of Memorial Drive and River Street, according to a CPD alert.
An MSP spokesperson confirmed the shooting involved MSP officers but declined to comment further.
CPD and the Harvard University Police Department sent email alerts shortly after 2 p.m. advising residents to avoid the area and that there was no ongoing threat. HUPD was notified by CPD at approximately 1:36 p.m that a person armed with a gun had fired shots in the area, possibly injuring two people, according to HUPD spokesperson Steven G. Catalano.
A suspect is in custody, according to Catalano.

A spokesperson for MSP confirmed that at least one individual was treated for a gunshot wound at the scene.
CPD said the scene remained active and asked residents to avoid the area. HUPD wrote that several roads nearby were closed and warned of “significant traffic delays for the foreseeable future.”
