MacKay Endorsed by State Auditor DiZoglio, Citing Legislative Transparency
Massachusetts State Auditor Diana DiZoglio endorsed Evan C. MacKay ’19 on Tuesday in their campaign against longtime incumbent Marjorie C. Decker for a seat in the State House, injecting a high-profile endorsement into the contentious primary less than two months before Election Day.
DiZoglio, who is responsible for auditing state finances and performance, is the first statewide official to publicly back MacKay’s resurgent bid to represent the State House’s 25th Middlesex District, which spans Harvard’s Cambridge campus, on Beacon Hill. MacKay is challenging Decker again after losing to her by just 41 votes in the district’s 2024 Democratic primary.
“Evan MacKay has already shown the courage to successfully take on entrenched institutions and fight for democratic reform as a union leader and has won real accountability reforms. That is exactly the kind of leadership we need in the State House, and I am proud to endorse Evan in this race,” DiZoglio wrote in a Tuesday press release.
DiZoglio’s endorsement of MacKay forms a notable departure from the 2024 primary, which the auditor largely stayed out of. Still, in that year’s general election, Cambridge voters supported by nearly 50 points a DiZoglio-backed statewide ballot measure authorizing her to audit the legislature.
In a Tuesday interview, MacKay sided with DiZoglio’s push for transparency on Beacon Hill.
“I think that the efforts that she is pushing for on transparency and accountability is incredibly aligned with what we’re trying to do here in Cambridge and what we’re trying to do in the State House,” they said.
MacKay has also been endorsed by a litany of other left-wing groups, including Cambridge and Boston chapters of Democratic Socialists of America, United Auto Workers Region 9A, Our Revolution Cambridge, and Progressive Victory.
Meanwhile, Decker has been endorsed by 27 groups so far, including the Massachusetts Nurses Association, the Greater Boston Building Trades Union, and the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts.
She has also been backed in the past by local and statewide political heavyweights, including Gov. Maura T. Healey ’92 and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll in 2024.
Though Healey has yet to officially weigh in on this year’s rematch, Driscoll attended the launch of Decker’s campaign last month alongside Cambridge Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui and City Councilor Marc C. McGovern.
Correction: June 3, 2026
A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that Decker had not yet announced endorsements for her campaign. In fact, Decker has announced endorsements.
