Police Safely Remove Man Experiencing Mental Health Crisis From Science Center Roof

Dozens of law enforcement officers swarmed the Science Center on Monday evening in response to a 911 call of a man experiencing a mental health emergency on the roof of the building.

At least nine police vehicles, an ambulance and a fire truck rapidly arrived on the scene. The officers entered through several Science Center entrances as they rushed to the roof.

Harvard University Police Department spokesperson Steven G. Catalano confirmed in a statement that HUPD officers, Cambridge Police Department officers, and Cambridge Fire Department personnel were involved in the response.

The man was removed safely without injury and transported to a local medical facility for an evaluation, according to Catalano.

The incident occurred as students studied inside the Science Center, including in Cabot Library. Law enforcement officials did not order an evacuation of the building.
