A warm sunlight floods through the windows lining the front of Bōm Dough, welcoming a slow spring morning into Inman Square. The cafe accents its large seating area with a green striped wall, vibrant matchas sitting on nearly every table, and leafy plants greeting customers, expertly pairing browns and greens in a calming, open space.

Bōm Dough’s menu revolves around the traditional Brazilian pão de queijo — a cheesy, gluten-free bread that melts in the mouth — and other comforting breakfast classics and energizing beverages. The cafe provides a welcoming atmosphere that takes a backseat to the vibrant flavor profiles in store, paying tribute to the Brazilian cuisine its menu originates from.

The space is split into two parts: one room for ordering and taking breakfast to-go, the other a dining room attached to the open kitchen. The variety of space emphasizes the cafe’s versatility as both a daily breakfast stop and a meeting space that is ripe for connection and remote work. Small two-top tables fill the dining room, and the fill-your-own water station ensures optimal comfort over the course of a slow breakfast and conversation.

Bōm Dough’s breakfast starts out swinging with a seemingly endless range of customizations for their coffee and matcha lattes. Most unique, though, might be the Mother Earth Matcha, a matcha latte flavored with vanilla, raspberry, and spirulina — encapsulating a vibrant blue and green color scheme reminiscent of the Earth. Embracing matcha’s softly bitter taste, the drink does not drench itself in artificial-tasting sugar. By incorporating hints of vanilla and raspberry, the flavors provide a subtle fruity sweetness that perfectly accent the earthiness of the matcha, fitting right into the cafe’s natural-minded ambience. The Mother Earth Matcha puts up a fight for the perfect matcha, with its colorful beauty tipping the scale into a refreshing, wholesome latte that pairs perfectly with any savory or sweet accoutrement.

For the more substantial part of the meal, many breakfast sandwich options stud the menu, along with traditional breakfast plates and waffles. The classic breakfast sandwich, the Ace Breakfast, features eggs, bacon, and cheddar wedged between pão de queijo buns, accompanied with heavily peppered potato chips. Each of the sandwich’s independent components are nearly flawless. The eggs tumbling out of the pão’s boundaries are buttery soft. The bacon, for its part, with its perfect crispiness, adds the salty punch the sandwich needs. The cheese coating the contents of the Ace Breakfast, though, feels slightly excessive in addition to the already cheesy pão de quiejo. The bread provides a near perfect container for the breakfast sandwich and does not leave much to be desired, so the extra cheesiness somewhat weighs the sandwich down. With its density, the Ace Breakfast makes a traditional breakfast sandwich into a full meal, at times both deliciously satisfying and sinfully filling.

To top it all off, Bōm Dough offers several dessert and pastry options paying tribute to traditional Brazilian treats. With beignet-esque pão de queijo pockets stuffed with either dulce de leche or guava, the cafe leans into the blank canvas the pão provides, taking customers throughout a wide range of flavors all originating from the same base. The dulce de leche pão de queijo comes oozing viscous caramelized spread out of its fritter container coated in powdered sugar. The pairing of the cheese-based pão and the sugary dulce de leche hit every note in the sweet and savory balance. The salty bread cuts through the indulgent filling, allowing each bite to go down easily and scrumptiously.

With Bōm Dough’s standout drinks that provide the perfect, refreshing sip alongside a filling and decadent breakfast sandwich, the cafe prioritizes quality, quick food as an accessory to a perfect morning. Rooted in Brazilian cuisine and its natural atmosphere, the cafe makes sure any visit tastes like Brazil, as the pão de queijo punctuates each dish with a mouthful of comfort. Bōm Dough uses its satisfying breakfast options to ease customers into each morning, allowing the dishes and drinks to speak for themselves, earning high praises and promises to come back for more.
