Books in the Botanical Library

A nature print from Kniphof’s Botanica in Originali (top right) is seen with the impression of the plant that was printed on the opposite page. Compare that to a botanical illustration (left) by Elizabeth Blackwell published in the 18th century. Whether it be an illustration (bottom center) or a print from a living plant (bottom right), this was how people survived before Google. You can even see a snippet of a specimen someone in history left while looking at the drawing!
